Through Art Therapy, I support individuals and groups of adults and children, regardless of previous art making experience, to express themselves through the language of their own unique creativity.
In an age fraught with uncertainty and obsessed with labels and diagnoses, Art Therapy offers a rare opportunity for self-exploration, self-reflection and self-empowerment, within the safety of non-judgemental therapeutic boundaries. I am based in my home studio in Co. Clare where I deliver one to one sessions, small group sessions and weekend retreats. Due to the on-going Covid-19 restrictions, I can deliver my one to one sessions over the phone or via Zoom. I also travel to workplaces in Clare, Galway, Limerick and Cork to deliver my sessions to groups in corporate, educational and health settings.
It is a natural human tendency to want an immediate end to our suffering and this is facilitated by the current mental health practice, driven by financial constraints, of attempting to provide a quick fix solution. However, what has become known as the ‘revolving door syndrome’ of repeat admissions in acute psychiatric units is clearly indicating that this method is not working. Just as it takes time for our experiences to negatively impact our ability to cope with life so too it takes time and commitment to get well. Art Therapy provides a powerful vehicle with which to follow and record the essential journey back to Self.
