Who are these sessions for?

Individual Art Therapy sessions are for all people of all ages and abilities who wish to explore and express their emotions through the use of creative art materials. Because Art Therapy is client-centred the sessions are tailored to the individual needs of the client. So whether you simply want to explore your creativity as part of your self care practice or you are looking for support and clarity around decision making, family or work issues, or perhaps you are dealing with trauma or illness, Art Therapy is an appropriate and helpful intervention. No artistic skill is required or expected however art therapy is equally beneficial for highly skilled artists as well as those with little or no experience. One to one sessions are non-judgemental, safe and confidential.

What does a session involve?

To begin we will explore the outdoor landscape engaging and connecting with nature and the elements as a way of energising the senses. We will then move inside into the therapy studio where I will invite you to select whatever art and sensory/tactile materials you are drawn towards in order to express yourself in whatever method you choose. When you have finished your creative work I will support you to explore what you have created and to arrive at your own sense of meaning and value in order to help you move forward in your life. Other therapeutic and creative elements will be offered such as creative visualisation and mindfulness, breathwork, journaling, dramatic expression, poetry, sandtray work and therapeutic visual cards etc. in order to enhance your experience.

Why would someone avail of a session?
There is an ever growing body of empirical neurobiological evidence in support of the creative arts therapies as powerful and transformational healing modalities. Psychiatrist and international trauma specialist Bessel Van der Kolk highlights how trauma is stored somatically as a bodily sensation not as an intellectual experience that can be accessed verbally. He points out that when a person experiences trauma their imagination closes down as they enter survival mode. Healing from trauma, he states, requires that we develop hope for the future and we do this by once again opening up our imagination. Art Therapy offers the perfect opportunity to open up our imagination and to develop a vision for a bright future whatever it is that we are facing or have faced in our lives. Scientific research also makes it clear that nature is therapeutic. Time spent in nature decreases anxiety and depression, increases our positivity and improves overall mental outlook. Added to which it connects us with our spirituality, inspiring us to be more creative and gives us a greater sense of safety and purpose. Combining art and nature is a win win situation providing us with a healing resource that was common knowledge in ancient times and thankfully is now beginning to experience the renaissance it deserves.

SupeRvision Sessions

Who are these sessions for?

These sessions are for practitioners who require regular  supervision and who are drawn towards exploring and processing their client work in creative ways. The methods I use are based on the latest research findings, Best Practice and effective Models of Supervision in order to offer my supervisees maximum support with their clients and within the wider organisational contexts of their work. These sessions are beneficial for all supervisees but particularly for those who want to develop greater reflective and intuitive qualities in their work.

What does this session involve?

During each supervision session we will make use of both the inside  environment of the therapy studio and the outside environment of nature and the elements. This provides an holistic approach which utilises the benefits of both the enclosed and open aspects of the space, whilst also reflecting these essential elements within supervision itself and within the world of therapeutic practice in general, thus bringing these inner and outer worlds into sharper focus.

Supervisees are invited to engage with a variety of creative materials and methods throughout the sessions, for example sand tray, mandala, sculpting, expressive art and visualisation, in order to express whatever is coming up for them in the  supervision session with regards to their work. In this way, the supervisees will have the opportunity to view the situation from different perspectives, gaining new awareness and insights. There is an educative element to the sessions as supervisees gain skills and  the confidence to incorporate creative methods in their own practice with clients.
